Reporter Producer Editor
ABOUT ME
I am an award-winning broadcast journalist who relishes every role that brings engaging and excellent journalism to an audience. Over the past 15 years I have been a reporter, producer, editor, co-creator and senior producer. I have reported award-winning audio stories and launched three successful podcasts and one award-winning, daily, hour long news magazine show on public radio.
I have led teams of producers as an editorial and technical director. I approve story pitches, edit scripts and recorded interviews. I book guests, plan web and social media content, work closely with a team and dream up new ways to engage a broader and more diverse audience on multiple channels. I also guest host.
As a freelance reporter and producer from 2007 to 2020, I produced work for American Public Media, National Native News, Minnesota Public Radio News, Chicago Public Media, the AMPERS network of tribal and community radio stations and community storytelling projects.
My work has earned awards from the national Public Media Journalists Association, the regional Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association and the state Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists.
I have a Bachelors and Masters degree. Before journalism, I was a junior high school science teacher, an aid to a Chicago Alderman, a community organizer and a non-profit manager. That experience has given me a broad understanding of people, power and community dynamics that I use everyday in journalism.
Finally, I love to laugh - loud.
